WINDOWS COMPANION · v0.2

Direct recovery,
on your computer.

Setup

  1. Use a healthy drive for every download and installation. Keep the affected drive unused.
  2. Install Python 3.10+ for Windows, including its launcher and Tcl/Tk.
  3. Download and extract official TestDisk / PhotoRec. Keep the entire extracted folder.
  4. Download the NeutronBeta companion and extract it on a healthy drive.
  5. Right-click Start-Windows.cmd and choose Run as administrator.
  6. Select photorec_win.exe in the file dialog. The local dashboard opens automatically.
  7. Check your source disk model, capacity and serial number. Choose a destination on a different physical disk.
  8. Confirm and start recovery. Open the output folder to inspect recovered files.

Keep both companion and PhotoRec windows open during the scan. The local dashboard is session-protected; do not share the link printed in the console. Closing your browser does not stop recovery.

Capabilities and limits

Physical-drive recovery uses PhotoRec's documented whole-disk carving workflow. Deleted and formatted-drive data may be found if the contents survive. Supported document families depend on your PhotoRec version. Names and folder structure may be lost; existing files may also appear.

The running Windows system disk, offline disks and virtual/Storage Spaces devices are blocked. For a Windows system drive, connect it as a secondary disk to another computer. Destination mapping must identify a separate physical disk.

Google Drive and other web storage use their desktop-synced local folders or a manual upload after recovery. This does not implement direct cloud sign-in or guarantee synchronization.

Validation status: Windows hardware testing pending.Controller and request-security checks were tested with simulated storage responses. The companion has not been tested on a real Windows drive here. Use a disposable USB with expendable test files first. Do not scan physically failing disks with this tool.

This package contains readable Python/HTML/JavaScript source; it is not a signed installer. Python and PhotoRec are separate dependencies. Read README.txt in the download for troubleshooting and details.
